What is Maxillofacial Surgery?

It is surgery to treat diseases, injuries and defects in the head, neck, face, jaws and the hard and soft tissues of the mouth, jaws and facial region.
An Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon is both a Dental and Medical Doctor, who has in addition, a high level of general and specialist training in Australian Medical Council approved programs. The general training duration after high school is about 12 -15 years.
